History: The original name for Flowery Branch was Anaguluskee, a Cherokee word meaning “flowers on the branch [stream].” The area was once an early Indian trading post. Andrew Jackson passed through Flowery Branch on his way to the First Seminole War in 1818. Flowery Branch was established in 1874, one year after the Richmond and Danville Air-Line Railroad built a rail line through the city connecting Charlotte to Atlanta. The town became the center of the northeast Georgia cotton market and attracted furniture and leather industries.

Community: In 1985, Flowery Branch’s Main Street was listed on national and state registers for historic places due to its many 19th and early 20th-century buildings, including the historic train depot. The depot was rehabilitated and now serves as a community center, welcome center, and museum. In 2004, the Atlanta Falcons announced they would move their training facility to Flowery Branch, and a $20 million training campus was completed in 2005. The city has experienced explosive growth, with population increasing over 500% since 2000, making it one of Georgia’s fastest-growing cities.
