History: Pioneers began settling in Woodstock in the early 1830s, shortly before Native Americans were removed from the area. Postal records show Woodstock had a postmaster beginning in 1833. After the Marietta and North Georgia Railroad built a depot in 1879, the little village came to life as a lifeline bringing industry and entrepreneurs, allowing farmers to ship cotton far and wide. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Woodstock as a town on December 9, 1897, when the population was 276. The community derives its name from Woodstock, an 1826 novel by Walter Scott. The current Woodstock Depot was built in 1912 by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, offering both freight and passenger service until the 1950s.
